What RALV stands for

Experience IOL
before surgery
RALV is not a simulator, it stands for Real Artificial Lens Vision. Patients look through real IOLs and get an authentic impression of their vision after surgery.

Discover potential for improvement
Patients experience firsthand how their visual performance improves as a result of refractive lens exchange. Digitally assisted measurements provide support.

Compare IOL types with each other
RALV can easily be loaded with different IOLs. The direct comparison gives patients confidence in choosing the best individual IOL.
The IOL Experience with RALV makes what was once unthinkable possible: your patients can look through real IOLs and gain a genuine, subjective impression of the vision achievable after refractive lens exchange—even before the procedure. Post-operative visual performance becomes predictable and 100% measurable. Authentic. Painless. Risk-free. 100% focus on your patient.

Questions about RALV®
RALV features a complex lens system into which real IOLs can be inserted. These IOLs are housed in so-called IOL shuttles, which can be easily placed into the device with a simple hand movement. The lens system neutralizes the refractive power of the patient’s natural lens, allowing presbyopic patients to look through the real IOL when using the device.
RALV predicts visual acuity and contrast with a deviation of < 1 line. Halo and glare are predicted with an average variance of less < than 5%. RALV provides a conservative prediction, meaning the surgical outcome is usually better than anticipated. Any common IOLs, regardless of design, material or optics, can be tested with RALV. Two-lens solutions – such as Liberty² from 1stQ – can also be experienced.
In general, RALV is suitable for CLE candidates and patients with mild cataracts, up to visual acuity 0.8. The physiological statusof the eye, in particular any other eye diseases affecting visual acuity, must always be considered. The patient should have a clear desire to be spectacle-free.
RALV is not a simulator. RALV enables real and authentic vision through real IOLs. Unlike simulators, RALV takes into account the individual factors of the entire eye, from the cornea to the retina, as well as perception in the brain.
No, RALV does not replace the necessary RLE diagnostics. RALV is an additional service that allows patients to make a self-determined decision about their IOL for the first time.
The idea for RALV arose from the need to give patients 100% confidence before lens replacement surgery even begins. Rüdiger Dworschak, the project’s conceptualizer and mentor, summarizes this briefly as “Vision 100%”. In times of downaging and the smartphone generation, CLE/RLE are the order of the day for increasingly younger patients. RALV is the solution for this demanding group.
In addition to optimal patient care in everyday clinical practice, there are two other main areas of application: scientific IOL studies without implantation and testing IOL designs for manufacturers and science.
